in time magazine they had an article about the iowa court ruling in favor of gay marriage. i think that iowa made a fantastic move in that ruling. there is no reason that two people who love eachother should not be allowed to marry. i think we are coming closer and closer everyday to being country that really does have equal rights for all.

i read an article in mother jones about the government wanting to spray down a plant that grows near the border, because it may help illegal people hide when trying to cross into the u.s. this is so dumb in my opinion because they don't even seem to care about the effect that those harsh chemicals would have on the rest of the environment or on the wildlife in that area. i dont think they should resort to such extremes over some plant.

in time magazine there's an article about spanish bull fighters being angry that the fine arts medal for bull fighting went to francisco rivera ordonez. all the other bull fighters are mad because they just think he got the award because he is from a well known family. i think no matter who would have received the award there would have been haters.

week 8

i read an article in "time" magazine titled "job forecast for college seniors: grimmer than ever" and thought it was kind of sad. it talked about how because of the economy, the demand for accounting and engeneering majors has gone way down. i feel really bad for those students because we are always told that in order to get good jobs and make good money you have to go to college, but for the mean time these students are really going to struggle with finding a job in their major, and paying there bills especially those student loans that are going to start kicking in in a few short months.

week 7

aparantly former UN ambassador, John Bolton, appeared at the Conservative Political Action Conference resently and gave a speech. during this speech he made a joke about how someone should blow up Chicago with a nuclear bomb in order to teach Obama a lesson. in response the crowd of american conservatives responded with laughter and aplause. i think that is so rediculous. what lesson would Obama learn from that? i can't believe someone would actually aplaud the murdering of innocent people just because they don't like our new president. it was a stupid and immature comment that should not have been made.

week 6

this week i read an article in the LA Times about umbelical cord blood, and how some doctors don't really believe there is enough evidence to suggest that it's worth saving. i think we should put more money toward funding better research to find out if parents should be saving their babies cord blood. this article reminded me of a show i watched where this real family had a son who was sick and doctors suggested that they have another child so that they could use that babies cord blood to help their sick child. i don't think anyone should have a new baby only to help a sick child, but they did it and it seemed to work for them.

week 5

In Time Magazine there was an article about how in China there have been about 20 million jobs lost as a result of the economy. it's gotten so bad that last month the head ofchina's assets supervision forbade state owned enterprises in the chinese capital from laying off workers. i just wonder when this whole thing is going to get any better.
